Staging for Summer Construction Projects Has Begun! Late April, early May fences started to go up at our Summer 2013 Construction Project locations. Site safety is an important priority for all Parkrose Bond Projects. Barrier fences and restricted access are elements of safety protocols in place. For your safety please do not enter the fenced off construction areas.
Multipurpose Room Design meetings began in May of 2012 and are ongoing into the new year. Our biggest project to date, the Sacramento remodel plus multipurpose room will include substantial safety and security upgrades.
It has been a super duper busy Parkrose summer! School has begun for the 2012-2013 school year. The children have arrived and the schools look great!
Shaver, Prescott and Russell Elementary schools were under construction this summer. It actually began before the students left for the summer when our teachers and staff began to pack up their classrooms, carefully getting rid of everything that was unneeded, broken and not useful. Everybody worked really hard!
So what exactly happened this summer at our schools?
Shaver: Shaver Elementary School got all new floors and all of the asbestos was removed. That is really good news for our kids and staff. They got a new more efficient boiler for heating and had lots of work done on their water system. The school was updated and modernized with new technology infrastructure as well as new security cameras and new iPads for staff and for kids. Training on how to best use the new technology for learning will follow soon. Shaver got new steps leading to the stage as well and new classroom sinks and counter tops.
Russell: Russell Academy of Academic Achievement got all new floors and all new windows. That means that the asbestos in the floor tiles and in the windows was also removed. Russell got a huge technology and security upgrade and also received new iPad technology for staff and students. This new technology can be used for assessments and for learning lots of new things individually and in groups. The water system at Russell was worked on, as were the bathrooms. Check out the new gym floor! Russell also got new sinks and counter tops.
Prescott: Prescott Elementary School got the largest remodel and the most work this summer. The front office suite was beautifully remodeled as was the media center and library. Prescott got a new staff lounge and staff workroom plus a newly remodeled kitchen and cafeteria. Prescott had its heating, ventilation and water systems upgraded and modernized. The bathrooms for the students are classy, super clean and modern. The tiles and restroom fixtures are all new. Finally, Prescott received upgrades in security, technology and all new floors. All of the antique and richly colored wood paneling was sanded and stained anew. Prescott got new sinks and counter tops. They even got a beautiful new gym floor and stage curtains. They got new iPads for staff and students. Prescott looks like a brand new school and don’t our kids deserve it? Yes, they do and you, the Parkrose taxpayers, made it happen for our kids.
So what’s next? The next projects for the district are three new multipurpose rooms/flexible learning spaces at Russell, Sacramento and Shaver. Sacramento is getting a remodel of its old offices, enclosed kindergarten and first grade classroom corridors and a new school office suite. It will also get upgrades in technology, heating, water systems and security. Next spring, our new Parkrose Middle School will start to be built for a grand opening in the fall of 2014.
There are many people to thank for so much hard work on these bond projects. As usual, everyone has pulled together to do great things for kids. Thank you!

These are pictures taken in the third week of June 2012, following the big move out of Prescott, Russell & Shaver buildings. Everything in the buildings had to be moved to storage containers so they could pull up the floors in all three buildings as part of the Asbestos Abatement. Some pictures were taken of the damage they found underneath the flooring.

Which building do you think needed the most storage containers, Prescott, Russell or Shaver?
